The elegant double storied house situated on the farm Van Wyksfontein, is nestled against protective Karoo koppies. The house built in 1870 is 28km north of Colesberg. A stream runs past the house. This fountain water is constant and feeds irrigable lands further down. Trees shade its course and a row of giant Cypress trees stand formerly in the front garden.
Large sash windows with shutters are a feature of this house as is the typically karoo moulding on the parapet. At the back of the house the top storey has a trellised verandah, and from the bedrooms one looks beyond the attractive lawns, trees & flowerbeds to the koppie & pulpit rock which juts out at the top & is a vantage point for climbers.
